I've lived in North Port since 1989.

After graduating from Manatee Community College and the University of South Florida, Pete and I raised our two children.

Now, with our three grandchildren growing up here, I am more invested than ever in our future.

As a 31-year member of Freedom Bible Church, Kiwanis, Friends of the Library, Holly's Hope and several nonprofits, my roots run deep
in North Port. I love to serve.

My Story

A journalist at heart

As a reporter, I studied the issues before City Commission meetings. I wrote about them. Then I followed up after the vote. This practice allows me to read the backup material and ask questions to understand each agenda item. I study these issues. I understand city government which is sometimes complicated. With my extensive background, it makes me ready to serve on day one. I will keep doing it as your City Commissioner.

Newspaper stories that made an impact

Community Outreach

Organizations that make a difference

I’ve reported on the backbone of the city including Meals on Wheels, Wellen Park Rotary, Backpack Angels, the Senior Center, Awaken Food Pantry, Heron Creek Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, the North Port Art Center, The Boys & Girls Club, all 11 schools, sports leagues, the chamber, the Boy and Girl Scouts, and many more. I developed relationships with these groups.

Campaigning for Nort Port

Speaking on city matters

For 15 years, I’ve traveled to Tallahassee, Orlando, Sunrise, FL. and Washington D.C. with North Port City Commissioners learning how they interact with the city lobbyist, ask state representatives for infrastructure project appropriations and other funding and the share the city’s legislative priorities and needs with federal lawmakers.

Decades advocating for North Port

Results that matter because I listen to the needs of North Port residents

Making A Difference

Gene Matthews was one of my great mentors. Former City Commissioner Vanessa Carusone taught me the ins and outs of local government.

We went to Tallahassee and Washington D.C. together to advocate for North Port. It's important to develop solid relationships with our elected officials outside North Port so they remember our funding needs.

Proudly serving
North Port since 1989

I’ve covered hard news from the Denise Amber Lee and Coralrose Fullwood North Port Police Department court cases and the Gabby Petito murder to countless budget, code, land-use, quasi-judicial and legislative hearings. I am well-versed in understanding government processes. My learning curve began in 1989. I have vast experience to help lead this city.

Honoring
Veterans

I’ve never missed a veterans ceremony in 25 years, covering their stories and photos for the front page.

City involvement

My journalism covered diverse city essentials: FEMA response, public safety negotiations, budgeting, and urban planning. I've tracked the Sunshine Law, housing crises, and utility management while attending joint government sessions. From zoning appeals to social services and parks, I have investigated every facet of our local infrastructure and policy development.

READY TO SERVE

I have spent years analyzing municipal operations and respect local input. I am fully prepared and ready for this office.
